“I started kickboxing at PMA in 2014 and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve lost 38 pounds so far and feel great! The instructors are amazing — passionate about martial arts, helping their students and changing lives. I have not only lost weight, but am more confident and healthier than ever before. I’m a true believer that if I can do this, anyone can. PMA has changed me for the better.”

What can Muay Thai do for you?
Muay Thai kickboxing is a terrific form of self defense, and the intense drills and technique work are terrific for muscle memory should you ever need them in a fight. However, the best part about Muay Thai is that its benefits go way beyond fighting.
Our Muay Thai Instructors
Chris Shelton
Owner and Operator of PMA Merrimack, Chris has been teaching martial arts for over 17 years, and is a 4th black belt in Karate and Purple belt in BJJ. He’s quite tall. When he’s not instructing, Chris enjoys woodworking and plays a mean bass (the instrument, not the fish).
Lynell Pacheco
Teaching kickboxing for over 8 years, Lynell is a 2nd degree black prajioud in Muay Thai and showcases the same peak performance you’d expect from a Ferrari. When she’s not dishing out more combos than McDonalds, Lynell is patching people up as a full time registered nurse. She enjoys hiking and spending time with family in her downtime.
Kyle Adams
A veteran of the Army National Guard, Kyle has been teaching for over 10 years, and is a 3rd degree black belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate. He’s quite photogenic. When he’s not destroying a heavy bag, he’s probably destroying your whole team on Call of Duty.
FAQs
Will I be able to do Muay Thai if I’m out of shape?
Yes. Our program is scalable no matter your current fitness level, so we’ll push you just enough to start getting results. As your fitness increases, you’ll be able to perform more demanding workouts. Before you know it, you’ll be in the best shape of your life.
Is it safe to train with Covid-19 going around?
We’ve always taken cleanliness very seriously. We clean our mats and equipment after every class and advocate using personal safety equipment like rashguards, mouthguards, cups etc. That being said, we’re also doing the following to combat Covid-19:
Keeping class sizes small
Prohibiting symptomatic students from attending class
sanitizing all surface areas and equipment after every use
using remote viewing so parent can watch classes without having to be physically present
spacing each class by 30 min so students can minimize exposure from other class participants
Is Muay Thai good for self-defense?
Absolutely. Students learn practical ways to defend themselves, based around leveraging your body and using striking techniques. Just as important though, Muay Thai will train your reflexes, explosiveness and cardio capacity — aspects of fitness that are essential in a fight.
Will Muay Thai workouts help me lose weight?
Yes. Muay Thai workouts burn a ton of calories which will lead to weight loss. For maximum results though, you will want to combine these workouts with a sensible diet and ample sleep. Metabolisms and sleep requirements are largely dependent on your individual needs, however lack of sleep and diets high in sugar and processed foods will most certainly inhibit the benefits of the workouts.
